Welcome To The Hungarian Parliament!
When Alex and I arrived in Budapest, we were told first and foremost to head to the Parliament Building…and what a building it is! In fact, unless you are across the Danube River, there’s no way to get all of it in a single shot!
We were told to go the Parliament building, which is a magnificent building that it fills an entire city block..it’s the largest building in the entire country, and it is still the tallest building in Budapest!
The Hungarian Parliament Building is the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, a notable landmark of Hungary and is in Lajos Kossuth Square.
We walked around the building to get pictures, and as I said, you can’t capture that much of it with each shot because it’s just so massive…
OK, an aside about this picture…if you read my post about traveling on the Orient Express, you know there is no shower, and we had just done a 25-hour, overnight trip from Venice…so I’d say my hair doesn’t look half bad!
We were taking these pics when we noticed two soldiers standing rigidly at attention by a flagpole in the courtyard…
At first I thought they were just street performers, dressed up and doing that as a bit to get money from tourists…I mean, we see it every day at Venice Beach in LA…
Quickly, we realized that THESE WERE SOLDIERS, and this wasn’t a joke…and then we saw three more marching out the Parliament building, and yes, we captured the “changing of the guard” as it happened – take a look:
So there you go: two soldiers replaced by two more, and they stand so still they look like statues!
Hungary’s Parliament Building is a truly incredible building, and if you are wondering, at night it’s even more majestic:
We took a nighttime tour of the Danube River, and the Budapest building are lit up in a blaze of golden glory – see that story here:
It was just one of many adventures in Budapest – and the adventure began when we arrived at their beautiful train station by steam engine!
Here is more of that adventure, including a video that shows what happens when you film a steam engine while it goes under an overpass:
It was all part of an amazing journey through Europe by luxury train:
You can see more about this vintage train and what it’s like to travel on it by clicking on my story here:
Let me know if you’ve been to Budapest!
