Travels Across America!
My son Jeff took a job in Atlanta, so I decided to drive him there – well, let him drive while I took lots of pictures to document the places we passed on our journey across the US…the trip took us from Los Angeles through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama and finally Georgia – 8 states in 5 days, and here’s how it all began…
We headed east from Los Angeles on the I-10 interstate – where you drive through an hour’s worth of sameness, until you finally hit the desert.
Not much to share except the incredible array of solar power-generating windmills outside of Palm Springs…
It’s a pretty if unspectacular trip across the I-10 in California, but things started to heat up once we crossed into Arizona – as in 107 degrees hot!

Arizona’s “Dust Devils!”
Yes, they are called “Dust Devils”, and we encountered dozens of them during our desert drive.
They are an everyday part of desert life: these mini-twisters that form in the distance like this:
As you drive, you can see them come closer and closer to the highway, and I saw one in enough time to capture it in full force, when THIS HAPPENS:
Poof! They roar out of the desert and then are gone as quickly as they appear! They seemed to lose power as they hit the highway, so they didn’t impact traffic at all – we averaged 80 mph the whole way…
The rest of the trip into Tucson Arizona was uneventful, but leaving the next day was an adventure!
