This portrait of Todd Rundgren is in the June 2015 issue of MOJO magazine, which includes a terrific profile of Todd!
Todd Gets HIs MOJO!
Todd’s latest album “Global” is getting him his best reviews in years, as well as a ton of press – including making the cover of MOJO!
“Mescaline, Meat Loaf, Mad Fans & Me”
What a great title for the article, which is full of great insight about Todd…
“Genius At Work!”
Look at the first line of the story:
“In the 70’s, Todd Rundgren was a prolific creator of conceptual prog-pop genius. In 2015 he’s at it again.”
It’s a lengthy article, with great photos…and fun interview bites like this, when he shows the Writer his bedroom:
“Don’t tell Michelle you came up here,” he requests, “because it’s not very neat.”
He tells great stories about his early albums, as well as the importance of his fans:
“Without them,” he admits, “I’m screwed. That’s a good reason to stay humble.”
The Writer, Piper Feguson, visited Todd at his house on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, where Todd grilled up sausages, poured great wine, and shared a number of terrific stories about his life and career…
In speaking of his commercial success with “Something / Anything”, Todd admitted he chose a more “noncommercial” direction, never delivering on his early commercial promise.
“I can understand”, he replies, with a knowing, toothy grin. “I certainly got enough grief from the record label about it.”
Thea article is full of candid, fascinating stories and reflections on his career, as well as a great look at the future as well.
“I never wanted to get bored. I still don’t. I have to have new options and new possibilities.”
One of those new options is his new CD with Hans-Peter Windstorm and Emil Nikolaisen of the Norwegian band “Serena-Maneesh”, and the terrific new experimental CD, “Runddans”!
Runddans Rules!
They refer to their debut release “Runddans” as “space disco.” And MOJO points out how impressive it is that Todd released TWO new CD’s in the same year!
Here is a great promotional interview Todd gave to support the album:
Kudos to Todd for the terrific magazine article – it’s great to see new young Artists flocking to him…and don’t forget, Todd had a muse as well:
The Genius Of Laura Nyro!
Todd spoke many times of his love for the music of Laura Nyro, and you can read the story I wrote about their friendship by clicking here:
And speaking of musical friendships, one of Todd’s greatest is with this guy:
Todd’s musical friendship with Daryl Hall has been highlighted twice on “Live From Daryl’s House”, and you can see clips here:
